Henry Hudson

June 1611 Explorers Gazette

Henry Hudson searched a North West passage to the Indies in 1609, 1610, and 1611.  In 1610, around winter time, the waters the crew was sailing on froze.  The Discovery, or the ship they were on, started to freeze as well.  Henry Hudson and his crew spent the rest of the winter in a log hut.  In June of 1611 the weather started to warm and they set sail again.  The crew thought he was sailing back home, but soon found out that he was still searching for the Northwest Passage.  The rest of the crew badly wanted to sail back home, so they threw Hudson, his son, and some other loyal crewmen on a small boat with no oars.  No one heard from them again.  I think the boat got water inside of it and started to sink, or maybe sea creatures damaged the boat.
